Of course, I don’t cross-stitch, but I told my dad the idea and he rolled his eyes so I knew it was perfect. I’m based in Abbotsford, BC, a rural town outside of Vancouver, where I work in marketing and graphic design.

How and why did you start your business/brand?

I started seriously thinking about a professional business when my best friend asked me to create a custom design that had her son’s birth info (date, time, weight, etc). She was so happy with the result that I knew I wanted to be creating items that could brighten someone’s day and space.

Share challenges in running your business and how you coped

There’s always a fear when you start something, but it’s even worse when struggling with mental illness. It’s important to talk about mental health and I try to be open with my struggles with anxiety and depression, and the amazing support system I have with me. Along with the amazing community we have, I’m so fortunate to have a supportive partner, a wonderful therapist, and a close group of friends and family.

What is your vision, and why is this important to you?

There was a quote that Lauren Hom (HomSweetHom) said when asked how she comes up with her ideas. She said ‘create what makes you laugh’ and I love that. I love the idea of creating something where people can get gimps of your personality and humor and find a connection with your creations. As long as I’m creating things I love, learning, and growing, I’ll be happy.

What inspires you/your work?

The embroidery community inspires me so much! It’s full of kind, talented individuals that continue to blow my mind. If I’m ever stuck on a project or need any form of encouragement, I know I can go to them.

Any advice for aspiring artists?

Be kind to yourself. The internet is a wonderful place, but it can also leave you feeling discouraged. Find your community and know it’s ok to take breaks from the internet sometimes.
